Melton Mowbray is a town in the Melton borough of Leicestershire, England. It is 15 miles (24.1 km) to the northeast of Leicester, and 18 miles (29.0 km) southeast of Nottingham. The town lies along the course of both the River Eye and the River Wreake. Melton Mowbray is perhaps best known for its culinary specialities being the home of both Melton Mowbray pork pies and of Stilton Cheese. The town offers excellent leisure and shopping facilities, including a traditional style cinema, modern leisure centre, tennis centre and parkland areas. An attractive Country Park, prolific in wildlife, lies to the North of the town. Melton Mowbray annually plays host to the largest free show in England the "Melton Show". This event attracts visitors from far and wide, and takes place on the last Bank Holiday in May.
