Market Harborough is a rare example of a planned medieval 'new town'. Market Harborough was created in the 12th century especially to be a market and promote local trade. Markets are still held in the town on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 8.30am - 5.00pm, with an Antiques Market on Sundays. St. Dionysius Parish Church - The 14th century church, the superb spire is one of the finest in England. The Old Grammar School - An unusual 17th century timber framed building standing on massive oak pillars, which pedestrians can walk beneath. Market Harborough Museum - Presents displays on local life, and includes the Symington Collection of Corsetry. Foxton Locks - Historic flight of 10 locks, on well-used Grand Canal, set in beautiful countryside. There is a shop selling traditional painted canal ware, a pub where children are welcome, which serves food and has a canal-side garden. Boat hire is available. Foxton Canal Museum - Remains of an extraordinary steam powered boat lift now under restoration.
